An explosion and fire broke out at a natural gas plant along Mississippi’s Gulf Coast late Monday night, but police said there were no injuries.

“The explosion and fire which following has heavy damaged the processing area”, he said.

The Pascagoula plant handles half of BP’s natural gas production from the Gulf.

Rick Rainey, a spokesman for Enterprise Products Partners, L.P., said his company had owned 40 percent of the facility with BP owning 60 percent. Rainey says Houston-based Enterprise Products closed on the purchase earlier this month.

Pascagoula police released a statement on Facebook, saying, “We would like to let our citizens know that there has been an explosion at the BP Gas Plant, located at 6800 Stennis Blvd”.

Police said there would be no evacuations, and no injuries were reported.
