According to North Port police, Noah Dassat of Santa Cruz, California, broke into the home and used the bat to attack the people living there, including three children.
Three children were in the home at the time of the break-in.
The homeowner was able to wrestle him and put him in a “bear hug” while the homeowner’s wife grabbed the bat from Dassat and beat him with his own weapon.
The burglary suspect, whose right eye turned into a shiner after the attack, was able to flee the house, but was later arrested by Charlotte County sheriff’s deputies.
Sherri Mitchell lives across the street and said the family came over to tell her what happened.
Dassat is being held in the Charlotte County jail without bond.
“There was police everywhere looking for him and it went on for hours”, a neighbor told WFLA. “That’s how we roll around here”.
“Well, I think he got pretty lucky”.
Josh Taylor, a police spokesman, told WWSB that North Port police don’t condone violence, and that the couple was simply protecting their family.

Dassat was arrested and charged with four felony charges and one misdemeanor for armed burglary, battery and criminal mischief in Charlotte County.
