Malegaon blasts case: Special NIA court rejects bail application of Sadhvi Pragya
A special NIA court today rejected the bail application of 2008 Malegoan blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur who had been given a clean chit by the probe agency last month. The rejection comes despite her bail application not attracting any objection from the NIA. They pleaded that the court has to now see all the material available before it and decide the case.

Pragya’s lawyer Prashant Maggu filed the bail plea earlier on May 30 after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) chose to drop her name from the list of accused in its chargesheet.
The NIA had found evidence against her to be the weakest and said that evidence against her was not substantial. The agency said that they don’t have sufficient evidence to prosecute Sadhvi, after which Sadhvi had applied for bail.
“The court has accepted our arguments that the confession (of other accused) can be relied upon even if the MCOCA is dropped from the case”, Khan said.
National Investigation Agency was slammed by social media users and political parties alike for its extraordinary decision to drop charges against the ABVP leader and key terror accused in Malegaon blasts case. He also argued that it was for the court to take a final call on the issue. At this prima facie stage, she can’t avoid her connection with it being registered in her name and she being the owner of the same.
Some of the witnesses, whose statements were used to implicate her, later retracted and filed complaints of torture by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), her plea said.
