“I knew Liverpool were interested in me, I had some [other] opportunities, but I think for me this is the right club, the right coach and the right moment to change”, he told the club’s website.
Mane, who netted 25 goals in 75 games for the Saints, joins Loris Karius, Joel Matip and Marko Grujic as Liverpool’s new signings so far for next season.
Sadio Mane will undergo a Liverpool medical on Monday ahead of a big-money transfer from Southampton.
“Since I came here I have spoken to the staff a lot about him and have always felt he could be a very good signing for us”, the 49-year-old German added.
“It’s a club that has won a lot of trophies and has a big history”.
Mane becomes the most expensive African player in history, with his transfer topping the £28m Manchester City paid Swansea City for Wilfried Bony in January 2015.
That list includes Rickie Lambert, Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren.
“I am excited to play at Anfield in front of the unbelievable fans and I am looking forward to a great season together as a club”.

Mane’s impending exit will see him follow Victor Wanyama – who joined Tottenham – out of the exit door and comes after manager Ronald Koeman left the club to take charge at Everton.
