Hillary Clinton gains double-digit lead over Donald Trump in fresh poll

On Monday, the Federal Election Commission released records showing that Trump’s campaign is lagging far behind his Democratic counterpart.

“It has been proven wrong again and again”, Clinton told a rally in Raleigh, N.C.

“He’s going after me personally because he has no answers on the substance”, she said. “So all he can do is try to distract us”. While Clinton has called for a pathway to citizenship for millions of people living in the US illegally, she has also called for focusing enforcement on “detaining and deporting those individuals who pose a violent threat to public safety”. “This is yet another example of how Clinton treated the State Department as her own personal hedge fund, and sold out the American public to fund her lavish lifestyle”.

Hillary Clinton would be beholden to foreign entities as president because her family has taken money from governments whose values run counter to those of the United States, Trump said in remarks lasting more than 40 minutes.

For most of the speech, Clinton’s focus was on policy, though she didn’t unveil any new proposals.

By comparison, Trump and groups supporting his candidacy had raised $67.1 million – with less than $2 million on hand. Trump, too, has adopted some of the same language and in his speech Wednesday make an explicit appeal to Sanders’s supporters.

“I can’t help but think what would have happened if a divisive character such as Trump were president during the 2008 financial crisis, at a time when leadership, compromise and careful analysis were critical”, he said.

Until the election, we’re bringing you “The Trump Files”, a daily dose of telling episodes, strange-but-true stories, or curious scenes from the life of presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump. The billionaire-turned politician has been closing the gap over the past few weeks, but this week’s poll shows Clinton about 13 percentage points ahead. Democrats already see weakness in Trump’s standing with white men, since he’s polling substantially below the 62 percent support that Republican Mitt Romney got in the 2012 election, according to exit polls.
