Gentiloni was quoted on August 4 by Iran’s Mehr news agency as saying the nuclear agreement “will serve as an opportunity for a gradual improvement” in relations between the two countries.
The nuclear deal has not yet been ratified by the Iranian Parliament or the National Security Council and the government hopes the European visits will show its critics what Iran could look like in the post-sanctions era.
Fabius said the nuclear accord between Iran and six world powers including France offers the chance for rapprochement, during a visit to the capital that has attracted a mixture of optimism and criticism.
Days before the conclusion of the talks on July 14, Fabius urged other negotiators to take a tough stance on Iran, insisting that Paris will not sign off on a deal if Tehran rules out inspections of its military sites as part of the final agreement.
“The number of cars produced in Iran is high and this will not be limited to Iran’s market”, he was quoted as saying by state news agency IRNA.
Italian Economic Development Minister Federica Guidi, who accompanied the delegation, told Iranian reporters that Italy would certainly invest in Iran’s vehicle industry in near future.
Carmakers Renault and Peugeot were major players in Iran’s automotive sector before major new sanctions were introduced in 2011, while oil company Total was active in Iran until 2006.
Meanwhile, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al Moualem who arrived in Tehran on Tuesday met with officials from Iran and Russian Federation.
In an article published in four Arab newspapers on Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif suggested a regional dialogue committee be formed to tackle the multiple crises in the Middle East.
