Syndergaard limited the Royals to three runs in six innings during the Mets’ 4-3 win, but manager Terry Collins revealed after the victory that elbow soreness cut short Syndergaard’s start and that he was seeing the team doctor along with slugger Yoenis Cespedes, who came out because of an aching wrist. He will be examined by a doctor Wednesday at Hospital for Special Surgery in NY and won’t pitch in a game this week in Florida.

Cespedes had two hits and a walk, including a double off the center-field wall, but was removed in the sixth due to discomfort in his left wrist. With his 2016 ERA now sitting at 2.08 ERA, he tossed six innings while allowing eight hits and three earned runs against the Royals.
Logan Verrett was summoned from Triple-A Las Vegas to give the team extra bullpen protection after Mets relievers were forced into action for 8 2/3 innings on Tuesday and allowed only one run. “He sure did that”, manager Ned Yost said.
