So it’s impressive that the duchess has managed to obtain a qualification in advanced scuba diving in the meantime, an achievement that has been confirmed by Kensington Palace.

Kensington Palace today confirmed that the Duchess completed the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) Advanced Open Water Diver qualification, and can now join hubby, an experienced diver, in his underwater adventures.

“I hope that one day my son, George, will also experience the wonders that snorkeling and scuba diving have to offer”, said Prince William last year, adding, “At the moment bath time is quite painful, but hopefully donning a snorkel and mask might calm him down!”

They have confessed to being “very competitive” when it comes to sports including tennis, skiing and sailing.

“Diving is something the Duchess very much enjoys, and the Duke of Cambridge, who is of course President of the BSAC, has said in the past that he is hopeful his children will become interested in the sport”, a spokesman for the Duchess said. Advanced divers need to carry equipment including a compass and a knife to be used in emergencies, such as becoming caught up in fishing nets.

The duchess is thought to have gained the qualification from a diving school on the Caribbean island of Mustique, according to the Telegraph.
