It is now represented by Republican Chris Gibson who chose not to seek reelection to a fourth term.

The state’s 19th Congressional District comprises all of Ulster, Greene, Columbia and DE counties, most of Dutchess County and some or all of six other counties.

In the 2014 primary in the Utica-based 22nd District, 30,119 of the district’s 159,000 active Republican voters showed up at the polls, for a turnout of about 19 percent.

With a resounding majority in the Democratic primary Tuesday night, Zephyr Teachout declared victory over challenger Will Yandik at 10:45 p.m.

In statement issued by his campaign, Faso said the following about the campaign that lies ahead: “It’s about giving power back to citizens and entrepreneurs – shaking the yoke of the central planners and insider-government dealmakers from our backs”.

The race between Republicans Faso and Andrew Heaney of Millbrook was much closer, with Faso polling 1,363 (53 percent) to Heaney’s 1,172.

State Sen. Adriano Espaillat, who failed to knock off Rangel twice before in Democratic primaries, is making his third run. In a bare-knuckled race, Heaney has played up Faso’s past as a political insider and lobbyist while Faso has spotlighted Heaney’s New York City roots and a 2007 campaign contribution to Barack Obama.

Teachout defeated Yandik a farmer, journalist and deputy town supervisor of Livingston in Columbia County.

The results show Faso winning with 67 percent of the vote, while Heaney received 33 percent of the vote with 86 pecent of the precincts reporting.

“It’s a disgrace that with only one race on the entire ballot, the Columbia County Board of Elections has so grossly failed the voters”.
