A virtual Big Latch On event has been created via the Big Latch On Facebook page (www.facebook.com/biglatchonNZ), which encourages breastfeeding Mums to post breastfeeding selfies with the hashtag #biglatchonNZ.

The goal of the Big Latch On is to get as many babies as possible latched on and nursing at the same time.

A group of 35 women gathered in Myrick Park on Saturday to take part in the national “Big Latch On” movement.
On Friday, Feliciano took part in the event for the first time with her 10-month-old son, Kael.
“The other moms helped me go as long as I am now”, she said. Moreover, breastfeeding has been associated with higher IQ scores and fewer chances of having diabetes or being obese later in life.

Lactation consultants and the La Leche League can help those mothers with coaching and advice, they said, with the league even offering at-home consultations.

Local businesses within Ceduna have gone above and beyond to accommodate for the growing number of breastfeeding mothers by displaying breastfeeding friendly stickers and welcoming spaces for mothers to feed.
