The charred body of a male was later found so badly burned that authorities couldn’t tell whether he had suffered any trauma prior to being set ablaze, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Lee Swanson said.

Police were calling the man a “person of interest” and not a suspect and they provided few details on what connects him to the attacks on the three men.

San Diego police have released surveillance video of a man that they’d like to question in relation to the attacks.

About 8:06 a.m. Sunday, July 3rd, San Diego Police and Fire Department received a call of a fire in the 2700 block of Morena Boulevard, between northbound Interstate 5 and the train tracks. He is now in a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officers said they found the man, in his 50s or 60s, with major trauma to his upper body.

At 4:51 a.m. Monday, officers found another man stabbed and bleeding near Greenwood and Kurtz streets.

“When you look at all three cases, looking at the scene, talking to people, this person is definitely someone we want to talk to”, said San Diego police Capt. Dave Nisleit, who declined to comment on possible motives for the attacks.

Violence against homeless persons is somewhat common in the city, as two brothers and one female teen were accused of fatally beating a homeless man in El Cajon early this year, CNN reports.

San Diego police are investigating after a person was found dead near the tennis courts at Robb Field in Ocean Beach early Monday morning.
