Overwatch Balance Changes: Zenyatta Might be Tweaked by Blizzard
Blizzard’s hit FPS Overwatch received a sizable update this week, introducing a few small patches and adding the long-awaiting Competitive Play mode for PC and Xbox One players. Unfortunately for Overwatch players, unintentional disconnects can lead to a loss in placement ratings and a dinged skill rating, even if they reconnect and their team wins.

Overwatch Competitive Play mode just rolled out recently, but it came with some issues that need to be ironed out as soon as possible. The way things work now in a competitive match, if someone quits within the first 30 seconds of game play, the match is invalid and the person who left receives both a loss and a leave-everyone else is free to leave without a penalty or loss. Those players are punished in exactly the same fashion as those who purposefully back out of a match.
We’ve only had access to Overwatch ‘s Competitive matchmaking for about a week, following its late June debut, but many fans are already running into issues with the stricter leaver penalties handed out to those who abandon a competitive Overwatch match before it’s ended. Overwatch’s game director Jeff Kaplan was the one to announce the patch. How many have you picked up so far? In order to get rid of the debuff you would have to play a number of games without leaving, win or lose.

What’s more, the developers put in a lot of effort in making Overwatch fun as evidenced by the new confetti special effect whenever someone successfully shoots the basketball through the hoop found in certain spawn rooms. The center suit now has Hongyu’s name written on the chest in Chinese characters, while the wall behind it now includes the message “heroes never die” – also one of the in-game catchphrases of the character Mercy. I know this won’t be much of a consolation, but we’re working on a bunch of fixes to the way disconnecting/losing/leaving works right now.
