They were joined by all 20 of Labour’s MEPs and more than 200 councillors and activists in Scotland – including former Cabinet minister Douglas Alexander.

Former London Mayor Boris Johnson is said to have the support of 100 Conservative MPs, with Home Secretary Theresa May also expected to stand.
It comes after the big four unions that back the Labour Party said they recognise the need for a leadership election but will continue to offer support for Jeremy Corbyn.
“The best thing is that he stands down, as painful as that is for him and his supporters”.
Chairwoman of Young Labour Caroline Hill told the rally Mr Corbyn “isn’t going anywhere”.
There were further calls for Mr Corbyn to quit with a letter signed by 540 Labour councillors posted on the LabourList website saying he was “unable to command the confidence of the whole party nor of many traditional Labour supporters we speak with on the doorstep”.
The Chief Rabbi hit out at the Labour leader’s “offensive” comments linking Israel and IS, also known as Isis.
His backing for Corbyn contrasts with Scottish Labour leader Dugdale calling for him to quit after a vote of no confidence was overwhelmingly passed by the party’s group of MPs. Her apology was “welcomed”, his spokesperson said on Twitter.
“Jeremy has lost the support of more than 75 per cent of the PLP”.
“The only way I could envisage a new party happening is if we lost the European Union referendum and Corbyn remained in power, but here we are. If it was accidental, he needs to apologise and issue a clarification immediately”.
I was planning to run an article chiding Brockley MP Vicky Foxcroft for her lack of her reticence to declare her position in the unfolding Corbyn car-crash.
“It’s not a leaflet that went out”, he said.
“One of her senior backers said she still hopes Jeremy will stand down”.
“I’m not fearful”, the source said.
She added that although she hasn’t criticised Corbyn in the past, his failure to respond effectively meant that she can no longer support him. Until today I had made no public comment about Jeremy’s ability to lead our party, but the fact that he failed to intervene is final proof for me that he is unfit to lead, and that a Labour Party under his stewardship can not be a safe space for British Jews.
“No-one from the Leader’s office has contacted me since the event, which is itself a catastrophic failure of leadership”.

Using the global rise in Islamophobia and anti-Muslim racism as the foundation of his argument, Corbyn then refuses to equate the actions of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, considered by many to be one of the most right-wing in Israeli history, to the world’s Jewish populations.
