England frustrated in 0-0 draw with Slovakia in Euro

Following their goalless draw with Slovakia in Saint-Etienne on Monday night, England finished the group stage with just one win from their three games and finished second behind Wales.

All four teams in Group F could theoretically finish second, meaning Hodgson will be kept guessing until after the final whistle blows in the last two games – Iceland v Austria and Hungary v Portugal – on Wednesday evening.

We can not confirm this yet, but we do know they will play at either Parc des Princes in Paris on Saturday June 25 or Stade de Lyon in, you’ve guessed it, Lyon the following day.

Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge also had good chances but for all the good build-up play and the possession England had, they could not find the back of the net.

We’ll obviously watch the next games and see who’s ready for us next, but I’m sure they won’t be looking forward to finishing second in the group.

Bumbling England boss Roy Hodgson admits he still does not know his best starting XI – but insists he likes it that way.

“Penalties in training, and penalties in front of a lot of people… that’s two different things as we in England know”, he said.

The big talking point in England ahead of the game against Slovakia is whether Hodgson will make changes to his starting team.

Cahill also revealed he is keen for one of England’s next opponents to take some initiative, perhaps finally affording the team’s forwards much-needed space in which to operate. “If the team continues to play with the intensity and domination we’ve shown in these three games we’re capable of winning a game in normal time”, he added. Everyone was telling me Vardy and Kane had to play because one scored 24 goals and the other 25.

“And I think [judging] by our dominance in the game it didn’t affect that”.

Although Walker has played every minute of England’s campaign at the continental showcase so far, the statistics reveal that he may not be the best choice for the role. I suppose the alternatives at full-back were very similar, the centre-backs were the same, and I guessed Rooney and Dele Alli would stay on the bench. “It could all just prove too much for BBC pundit Robbie Savage”.

“I was pleased with my performance”, said Clyne.

ENGLAND defender Gary Cahill has responded to the disappointment of a 0-0 draw with Slovakia by saying they will dish out “a real beating” soon.
