Grizzlies Finally Get Shooting, Chandler Parsons Agrees to Max Deal

According to multiple reports, Mike Conley, the former Buckeyes guard, is expected to sign a five-year deal worth $153 million to stay with the Memphis Grizzlies. Parsons fits their timeline of contention even if it seems flimsy with how the balance of power in the Western Conference has shifted away from them over these past two playoffs.

The front runners so far have been the Spurs and Mavericks, their sells are both vastly different and appealing for totally individual reasons, but will have their own levels of pull. The Grizzlies kept the “Grit “n” Grind” identity while adding a splash of flash they desperately needed.

Parsons reportedly turned down a max contract from the Portland Trail Blazers earlier Friday. Parsons posted on Instagram under a picture of him posing with new Grizzlies coach David Fizdale and a No. 25 Memphis jersey. “The position that has the most proven players are at the four and the five”. Between Conley, Gasol and Randolph plus some of the youth they have, they will be very hard to match-up against.

Since the Memphis Grizzlies held the Bird Rights to Mike Conley, they were able to offer him a deal that was approximately $40 million more than anyone else in the National Basketball Association could offer.

Parsons also has earned a reputation as being one of the best in the league at persuading other free agents to join him. Dallas signed Parsons to an offer sheet two years ago, and the Rockets didn’t match.

It was an expensive day in general for the owners of the Grizzlies with them also giving Chandler Parsons a $94 million, something not lost on the Grizzlies owner who sent out this tweet. He was limited to just 56 contests due to an Achilles injury, however, which put a major damper on the Grizzlies’ campaign. And the clock is ticking on him obtaining his first – and perhaps his last – big-money, five-year contract. Heading into free agency, people didn’t necessarily expect Memphis to make a splash with anyone other than Conley, and there was no guarantee he would return either.

“No chance”, the source said when asked if there was any possibility of Parsons re-signing with the Mavs.
