Russian whistleblower cleared to compete as neutral athlete
The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has suspended Russia’s 2012 Olympic high jump champion Anna Chicherova pending a probe into doping abuse during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the athlete told TASS on Friday.

Speaking about the non-compliance reports from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and numerous “substantial allegations” in regard to the anti-doping systems in Russian Federation and Kenya, IOC president said the summit participants concluded that “they put very serious doubts on the presumption of innocence for athletes coming from these countries”.
It was still unclear, however, if the middle-distance runner would now be eligible to compete at the Rio Olympics, with the IAAF saying it was up to organisers to decide.
Russia’s entire track and field team has been banned by the IAAF following revelations of massive, state-sponsored cheating.
She is due to hold a news conference on Monday in the Dutch city, together with the president of European Athletics Svein Arne Hansen.
IAAF may review the decision of June 17 if CAS satisfies application from the Russian Olympic Committee (OCR), Brilliantova said on Sunday.
Russian Federation men’s quadruple sculls crew have been banned from the Rio Olympics after one of their members failed a doping test in May, the world governing body FISA said on Friday.

Swimming’s world governing body FINA is also investigating reports of doping amongst Russian swimmers, while the country’s weightlifters face a ban from the International Olympic Committee following re-testing of previous samples. The IOC wants them to use the Russian flag, while the IAAF is opposed. More than 80 Russian athletes have submitted applications for consideration. The IOC has yet to announce if it will grant Stepanova a bid at the upcoming Olympic games. Olympic athletics starts on August 12.
