Britain told to begin process of leaving European Union as soon as possible

Some “Leave” voters now claim they did not think their vote would make a difference, or that they didn’t think twice before voting.

“There must be clarity”, Asselborn told reporters.

With global markets in turmoil, she said it was important to “not draw quick and simple conclusions from the referendum in Great Britain, which would only further divide Europe”.

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, hosting his counterparts from the five other original European Union states, said they agreed that London must begin the exit process immediately.

EU leaders are anxious that the Brexit process should start rapidly following the UK’s referendum, which resulted in a vote to leave the union and the subsequent resignation of Prime Minister David Cameron, who had led the remain campaign. “This is an unprecedented situation, but we are united in our response”.

Although the United Kingdom will continue to participate in general European Union business, it will be kept out of discussions between the other member states on Britain’s departure.

Britain also had its credit rating outlook downgraded from stable to negative by ratings agency Moody’s after the Brexit vote.

The ministers also released a statement pledging to address divergent attitudes toward the European Union from its remaining member nations.

Those in the frame to succeed Mr Cameron include UK Home Secretary Theresa May, Education Secretary Nicky Morgan and Mr Johnson – long said to have ambitions for the top job and favourite with the bookies.

“The country requires a fresh leadership to take this forward”. This led to a lot of the contention over the European Union in the first place.

However, he also appealed for calm and for no rash decisions to be taken after 52 percent of the British public voted in favor of leaving the bloc. The organizers hope the rally will show people’s extreme disappointment about the referendum that has “split [Britain] into two. I voted “Leave” but didn’t think my vote would count – I never thought it would actually happen”, a man who claimed to have voted “Leave”, told the BBC in an interview.

But there’s no rule that says Britain can’t stall.

Corbyn, whose Labour Party backed a vote to stay in the bloc, said the areas that voted most strongly to leave are “communities that have effectively been abandoned” by economic change and the austerity policies of Britain’s Conservative government.

She had first floated the idea on Friday, saying it was “highly likely” within two years, citing a clause in the Scottish Nationalist Party manifesto referring to “significant and material change in the circumstances”.

In a statement following the meeting in Berlin Saturday, the foreign ministers of Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands said they “expect the United Kingdom government to provide clarity and give effect to this decision as soon as possible”. Several are trying to rally support behind a bid to unseat Corbyn.
