The Sierra-Leonean Diplomat was on his way from Abuja to Jaji in Kaduna State for the graduation ceremony of Senior Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) when he was abducted last Friday.
Alfred Nelson-Williams was abducted on the highway between Kaduna, northwest Nigeria, and the capital Abuja on June 30.
Sierra Leonean “President Ernest Bai Koroma is very concerned over the kidnap… and is in around-the-clock contact with the president of Nigeria on the matter”, said Baytraytay.
A statement by the Force Public Relations, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Donald Anwunah said that he was released at about 4pm along the Abuja-Kaduna road.
Awunah said following credible intelligence, there was intense police activities on both land and air patrol within the area where he was captured.
”We were able to locate where he was kept at about 1500 hours”.
The police however did not say if ransom was paid for the envoy’s release or not. There have been media reports that the kidnappers had sought a 40 million-dollar ransom.
