When police arrived, someone opened fire.
More than 6 dozen police units are on the scene, and KSLA News 12 has learned that DeSoto Parish is also lending a helicopter in the search for the gunman, and a Special Response Team is now at a home in the 3400 block of Judson Street.
According to the Shreveport Times, the officer was called to a home in the Queensborough neighborhood of the city at about 9:14 p.m.to investigate a suspicious person.
Hines didn’t elaborate on the officer’s injuries, initially saying only that the officer was in “very serious” condition at a hospital.
The Shreveport Times is reporting on its website that the officer died Wednesday night. Hines says an armed man was apparently inside the residence, threatening to harm people.
The officer’s identity was not immediately released.
