Cilic takes 1st set off Federer in tiebreaker
How does it feel to be the nation’s last hope. We need a new prime minister, Top Gear presenter, England football manager and Wales are losing (at soccer’s European Championship). Then he leaned forward, placed his chin on a fist and responded wryly, “It’s not that bad, is it?”

“My back, now that I have been looking after it, doing way more different types of stretching, sort of injury prevention work, my back is no issue whatsoever”.
“I fought, I tried, I believed”, Federer said. I know Tsonga is one of the best grass-court players in the world.
MURRAY VS. TSONGA: Tsonga has twice reached the Wimbledon semifinals, including beating Federer in the 2011 quarterfinals.
No. 12 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga saved a match point and eventually edged the 18th-seeded Isner 6-7 (3), 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2, 19-17 over almost 4 hours in a third-rounder that ended Sunday.
But Murray still has to beat Berdych to have a chance at a second Wimbledon title on Sunday.
And Murray wasn’t alone in winning in dramatic fashion. He also won the U.S. Open in 2012.
His lead slipping away, Andy Murray needed a little something extra to keep him going in the fifth set.
Already trailing two sets to none, he was down love-40 while serving at 3-all in the third.
The victor will play Tomas Berdych in the semifinals on Friday.
Berdych, the 2010 runner-up at the All England Club, was playing for the third straight day.
The 10th-seeded Czech was forced to finish his fourth-round match against Jiri Vesely on Tuesday because play was suspended by darkness the night before.
Pouille, a 32nd-seeded Frenchman, was playing in the quarterfinals of a major tournament for the first time.
Pouille had never won a grass court match before this year’s Wimbledon.
Berdych will next face either 2013 champion Andy Murray or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semifinals. After saving that trio of match points, Federer eventually emerged with a 6-7 (4), 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (9), 6-3 victory over Cilic to reach his 11th semifinal at the All England Club.
But Simona Halep, the 2014 French Open finalist, has been getting better on the grass at the All England Club, reaching the quarterfinals previous year.
Federer will play Milos Raonic in the semifinals on Friday.
Federer will face ninth-seeded Marin Cilic in the quarterfinals, while Murray will take on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Murray won 12 out of 12 sets.
And, in the final quarterfinal to be decided, Murray faced a battle for the first time here this fortnight.
On Friday, Federer faces No. 6 Milos Raonic, a 6-4, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 victor against No. 28 Sam Querrey, the man who surprised No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the third round.
“I think it’s an awesome story, unbelievable what they’re doing”, he said.
“I can not believe Roger Federer won that match”.
“Every time I step out on the court, if I don’t win, it’s major national news”, Williams said a day after her counterpart in the men’s draw, No. 1 and defending champion Novak Djokovic, was ousted.
Roger Federer has dropped the first set of his quarterfinal against Marin Cilic in a tiebreaker.
He holds a 2-1 winning record over Raonic and is the first American man in the quarter-finals in five years.
FEDERER VS. CILIC: Federer is 5-1 against Cilic, but it’s the one loss that still hurts.
Federer is chasing a record eighth Wimbledon singles title.
