No other events were held on Wednesday but the competition will see a full schedule of disciplines on Thursday.

After a competition which had been conducted inside the stadium rather than on its customary site on an adjacent field, Campbell commented:”To be able to compete in the centre at Hayward, in the middle of the day with an incredible crowd, there is nothing like it”.
Following a disappointing result at the 2015 IAAF Outdoor World Track & Field Championships in Beijing last summer, the win affords Campbell – who throws for the Mjolnir Throwers Club and Nike – another shot at an elusive Olympic medal.

Price and Berry tied for second place with throws of 73.09 meters, both meet records. Deanna Price was third, at the same distance as Berry. “It’s unreal to actually believe that I am a three-time Olympian; it’s a dream come true”.
Now only 23 athletes worldwide have reached the standard. “Hopefully, I’ll get an invitation”, he said.
“If I had known the ban would extend beyond the Trials, I would have fought it. A lot of people don’t get to do it once, but I’m also confident in knowing that since I’ve been there before, I also know the stage is not too big and I can go in there free and ready to do my best”. “I’ll be around for a while”.
Kibwe Johnson was second with 75.11m while Conor McCullough was third with 74.16m.
“I wanted to prove to the world that I’m here because of talent and because of God, and not because of an inhaler”, a delighted Berry said after qualifying on Wednesday.

Like the men’s hammer throw there are 24 competitors in the women’s hammer throw qualifying round, with the top nine moving on to the final Wednesday evening.
