This is how India celebrated Eid

About 10,000 Muslims are expected to gather at Auckland’s ASB showgrounds from 9am for prayers, food and celebrations.

Writing on his Facebook page, Mutharika and the First Lady congratulated the Muslim community in the country on the occasion of this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.

After sundown, also known as iftar, most Muslims break their fast with a traditional family meal.

Muslims from all walks of life started making a beeline to the Eidgah (prayer ground) or a mosque for offering the Eid prayers as a thanksgiving for the month-long fasting.

“And this Eid we celebrate, Muslims celebrate all over the world, after the finishing of 30 days of Ramadan, or fasting”, said Saeed Ahmad, president of the IN chapter of Ahmadiyya.

“It’s a family event, it’s a community event, it’s a national event in countries where you have more of a Muslim population”.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Ghana’s main opposition leader, has appealed to Muslims on the occasion of Eid ul-Fitr festival to pray for “peace and prosperity”.

The religious greetings is Eid Mubarak – meaning blessed Eid.

As the holy Islamic month of Ramadan comes to an end, plans are under way for the celebratory festival finale called Eid.
