Federer Comeback: Wimbledon 2016 Quarterfinals Results Day 10

There’s a lot more hopes left than me. “I do believe [that], keeping it in to some extent, you can be frustrated in a different way”. “Yeah, I mean, it was an emotional win”.

“I approached Ivan when he stopped with Andy first time”, Berdych said.

Scotland’s Andy Murray – who won Wimbledon three years ago – outlasted France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 7-6 (10), 6-1, 3-6, 4-6, 6-1.

And Raonic has experience now, even though he was on the losing end two years ago when he lost to Federer in the Wimbledon semifinals. Other players from the USA also did some good racket work. I feel like, ‘Better play well. His best shot, though, came at 4-3 in the fifth set, when he smoked a forehand victor cross-court.

The victor will play Tomas Berdych in the semifinals on Friday. Murray’s seventh Wimbledon semifinal will come against No. 10 Tomas Berdych, who eliminated No. 32 Lucas Pouille 7-6 (4), 6-3, 6-2. Querrey led by two sets to none when the match was called because of rain.

He will now meet Milos Raonic in a record-equalling 11th semi-final this Friday.

His Swiss conqueror snatched a pulsating fourth-set tiebreak 11-9 before winning 6-7 (4-7) 4-6 6-3 7-6 (11-9) 6-3 to reach his 11th Wimbledon semi-final and keep up the tilt for an eighth title.

He turns 35 next month but Roger Federer proved at Wimbledon on Wednesday that he isn’t too old to engineer a rousing comeback.

FRIDAY’S MEN’S SEMIFINALS Murray vs. Berdych, Federer vs. Raonic. Cilic missed a forehand and then Federer, in trouble so often, had a chance to serve out the match.

In a dramatic tie-break, the advantage swung back and forth, with Cilic fighting back from 6-4 down and then failing to take another match point.

Cilic was 51-0 at Grand Slam championships when taking the first two sets.

Milos Raonic is back in the Wimbledon semifinals for the second time in his career.

6-4 7-5 5-7 6-4 victory.

Querrey defeated Novak Djokovic in the third round, becoming the first American to beat a top-ranked player at Wimbledon since Kevin Curren downed McEnroe in the 1985 quarterfinals.

“Marin’s such a wonderful player”. But earlier this year in Brisbane, Raonic won by the same count, but in two sets.

Of course, for Cilic that would have been a win of one of the match points, or for Federer forcing a fifth set.

Federer carved out the only break points of the first set in the fifth game, both of which were saved by the giant Croatian. But he considered his 6-4, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 quarterfinal victory over Sam Querrey his best match of the tournament. Tsonga won the third-set tiebreaker in waning light and the match was suspended until “People’s Sunday”.

And at 7-6 in the ensuing tiebreaker, Federer again didn’t hold back on a second serve, this one at 108 miles per hour, and Cilic flubbed a forehand return, this one into the net. Something had to be added to Raonic’s game if he wanted to win it all here and the 6-foot-5 Canadian knew it. That’s when the old ground with the new roof finished with its lesson for the day: Remember, it’s absurdly hard to dislodge the “big four” of men’s tennis. He then broke Federer’s serve in the third game of the second set and held on to go ahead two sets to love.

The sun is out and no rain is forecast.

The most memorable drama of the day unfolded between Federer and Cilic, with spectators including soccer star David Beckham and actor Bradley Cooper. He is now tied with Pete Sampras and 1880s player William Renshaw with seven.
