Carlson, Griffith named to Lou Groza watch list
Marshall junior kicker Nick Smith was named to the 2016 Lou Groza Place-kicker Award Watch List Thursday by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.

University of Cincinnati kicker Andrew Gantz and tight end DJ Dowdy are the latest Bearcats to be named to preseason national award watch lists.
Domingue also scored what proved to be the game-winning touchdown with a 16-yard run on a fake field goal attempt in LSU’s 35-28 victory over Florida last season.
Slye went 23-for-30 on field goals as a sophomore, with 13 of them coming from between the 40- and 49-yard line. Puyol finished the season by making seven of his last eight field goal attempts of the season – including a career-high 52-yard field goal vs. Marshall in St. Petersburg Bowl on December 26.
Daniel Carlson (38) kicks for the extra point.
Smith, a 2015 semifinalist for the award, made 18-of-25 field goal attempts last season, including 3-for-4 in Thundering Herd’s 16-10 St. Petersburg Bowl victory over CT. “He’s one of the best kickers in college football and that will be a big weapon for us next year”.
“I expect myself to have a good year no matter what”, Carlson said on April 2.

Carlson is set to graduate this summer and will have his bachelor’s degree before his college eligibility is over so leaving Auburn after his junior season wouldn’t hurt his ability to obtain a college degree.
