Jon Stewart’s legacy as he exits ‘The Daily Show’

But Arby’s has been good-humored about the non-stop ribbing (no publicity’s bad publicity, after all) and the fast-food chain chose to round up the best of the abuse in a tribute ad that ran during the penultimate episode of the Stewart-hosted “The Daily Show”, which aired on Wednesday night. Stewart asked. “What I meant was, it’s gone all the way to the White House“.

Stewart has hosted the late night show since 1999 and has interviewed an array of celebrities, including actors, authors and President Obama.

This led him to a grim assessment of his 16-year tenure as host of the show. We live in a time of constantly oscillating partisan political outrage. Stewart, et al., have birthed several shows that make their bread and butter from sarcasm and satire: “The Colbert Report”, John Oliver’s “Last Week Tonight” and Larry Wilmore’s “The Nightly Show“. The donation, which will become part of the Newseum’s collection for future display, comes as Stewart signs off after 16 years hosting the popular show, which often blurred the lines between news, satire and comedy.

Stewart’s legacy is at least that much.

And on the poor grunts who toil away thanklessly every Monday through Thursday nights, recapping The Daily Show under ridiculous headlines touting Stewart’s various conquests. We shall always be enemies!

Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” has won 20 Emmy Awards.

What a way for Jon Stewart to go out.
