The Football Association of Wales, alongside the Welsh Rugby Union – which owns the stadium – have teamed up with Cardiff’s city council to install a 100ft screen in the Principality Stadium, along with two other existing screens, to host the event, for which tickets will be available on Tuesday morning from 10.a.m.
There were huge cheers at the first sight of the Wales team, with noise levels topping the 100-decibel barrier as fans stood to belt out the national anthem “Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau” (“Land of My Fathers”). “Your historic achievements have already earned the support not only of Wales, but of the whole United Kingdom, and I hope you will know just how much we are all willing you on to further success”. One person even got in touch to say that they saw a taxi driver decorating his vehicle with flags! “They’ll win this”, said quantity surveyor Jack McNally, 26.
Wales fans massing in Cardiff were trying – and failing – to keep a lid on their excitement in the build-up to the biggest football match in the country’s history on Wednesday.
And at full time, fans stood en masse to applaud, a show of pride in a team that has thrilled a nation.
A spokesman for the FAW said: “There are no plans for the players to go anywhere else”.
