Apple Music has 11 million users after just five weeks

Apple Music is now in three-month free trial phase so users aren’t paying anything for the service.

According to USA Today, in addition to the trial members, another 2 million have also signed up for the family plan at a cost of US$14.99 (RM58.47) a month, for up to six people.

If that estimate is on the money, Apple has so far only tempted 11% of its music buyers to sign up for a trial of its new streaming service. An individual subscription costs $9.99 a month.

With Apple’s brand and reputation behind them, everything the company does is typically heralded as the next big thing, but could that be said about Apple Music? China showed more strength for Apple than other areas. Cue did not say which regions are performing the best, although we highly suspect most subscribers are located in the US. And Jimmy Iovine, another Apple employee, said he was “pleasantly shocked” by how well the service has done.

This fall, Apple will unveil Apple Music for Android users in beta, part of CEO Tim Cook’s pledge to be platform agnostic with the service.

And again: Until we know how many of those free users convert to paid users, starting in October, that’s a pretty meaningless number. “Beyond that, there’s still the issue of winning over millennials, who never pay for music, by showing you’re offering something that will improve their lives”, he said.

July was also a very good month for the App Store with a record $1.7 billion in transactions. That brings the total amount paid to app developers to Dollars 33 billion, up from USD 25 billion at the end of 2014.
