Dallas Mavericks Set To Add Andrew Bogut, Harrison Barnes

Well, the answer to that depends on whether or not the Warriors will get the services of another free agent, Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder. The unrestricted Barnes quickly met with the Mavericks and verbally agreed to terms after Dallas had planned to offer him a max-level offer sheet on July 7 when the NBA’s moratorium was lifted. Now that Barnes has gone to a new team, he will most likely become the second or third scoring option for the Mavericks.

According to ESPN, the Mavericks are offering a max deal worth $95 million in four years. Barnes’ biggest knocks are his inconsistency, the fact that he’s the fifth best player on his team but receiving a max deal, and his terrible NBA Finals.

In 2015-16, Bogut played in his 11th season in the National Basketball Association, averaging 5.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 blocks in 20.7 minutes per game. Paperworks are still being done for the trade of the 31-year old Australian who plays center for the Warriors ever since he was traded from the Milwaukee Bucks in 2012. His ability to space the floor and guard multiple positions, thanks to his 6’8, 225-pound frame, played a major role in Golden State’s record-setting regular season this year and title run last year. He’s a free agent and would complete the Curry, Thompson, Green, Barnes and Bogut lineup.

At 24 years of age, Barnes has an impressive resume, ‘ consisting of winning an NBA championship, going to back-to-back NBA Finals and having the chance to win a gold medal in the upcoming summer Olympics in Rio.

Golden State, still in a holding pattern as the Kevin Durant courtship drags on, reportedly is interested in the forward who would be polarizing if anyone passionately supported him.

And while Barnes’ 3-point production last season – 38.3 percent accuracy on 214 long-range attempts – gives the appearance of competence, a deeper dive suggests it might be a mirage. As Engelmann and Ilardi point out, his low turnover rate is more a testament to his lack of aggression in creating in the Warriors’ offense than his reliability with the ball in his hands.
