A suspicious package was discovered near the suspect’s location and the DPD bomb quad is headed to the scene.
Chicago police have been ordered to work in pairs and “exercise extreme caution” after a sniper who told authorities he “wanted to kill white officers” left five dead in Dallas during a peaceful protest Thursday night.
– In the wake of the Dallas police shooting, Orlando Police Chief John Mina said his department received a “vague threat”.
Most of the injured Dallas police officers have been released from a hospital, Brown told reporters.
Ten officers were shot during the protests, but a short time later said an 11th officer was shot in an exchange of gunfire with one of the suspects, according to Brown.
“All I know is that this must stop – this divisiveness between our police and our citizens”, Brown said. “Please, we need your support to be able to protect you from men like these, who carried out this tragic, tragic event”. We care so much about people protesting, and I think it’s their rights.
“Until 7:45 there were just some speakers, they were positive and proactive, then they said we were going to line up and march”, she said. The suspect said we will eventually find the IEDs. “But we’re not satisfied that we’ve exhausted every lead”, he said. Krol worked in Wayne County jails in MI between 2003 and 2007 before joining the Dallas Police Department, according to WFAA.
None of the other suspects was identified, and the police chief said he would not disclose any details about them until authorities were sure everyone involved was in custody.
Crowds ran into a parking garage, witnesses said, and spilled out after word spread a sniper was nearby. The attacks made Thursday the deadliest day for US law officers since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, according to The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, which tracks on-duty deaths. Two civilians were also wounded.
Chief David Brown at first said that two shooters fired from separate elevated positions above the demonstration, but early Friday even that was cast in doubt and the gunman may have acted alone.
His warning to his police department comes after two black men were killed by police earlier this week, in two separate incidents one in Minnesota and the other in Louisiana.
Dallas police Chief David Brown, front, and Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, talk with the media during a news conference Friday. That suspect is dead, a law enforcement official told CNN. The official did not say how the suspect died.
Brown said after the negotiations failed, officers sent their bomb robot in the garage with a bomb attached and detonated it near the suspect.
Maj. Max Geron (GAYR’-uhn) tweeted before dawn Friday that primary and secondary sweeps for explosives were complete and no explosives were found. “This ain’t just started; they’ve been killing us”, Chermicka Brown, a friend of Sterling’s who joined protesters outside the store where he was shot, told NBC affiliate WVLA in Baton Rouge. That DART officer has been identified by the department as Brent Thompson.
