Texans plan to sign ex-Saints RB Thomas
The recovery time if Foster opts for surgery would likely necessitate a roster move and Foster would be a candidate for the injured reserve list with a designation to return later in the season.

Houston Texans running back suffered a groin injury in Monday’ nights practice and may need surgery, according to an ESPN report.
Coach Bill O’Brien said Foster would be monitored but did not discuss the injury in detail. Alfred Blue took over in Foster’s place and will likely do so going forward.
“We do live in a society where public opinion matters, and I totally respect that”, Rice said. “I think he came into this offseason and he really worked extremely hard”. He’s earned the “injury-prone” label in recent years, but his play last season was encouraging for the Texans.
Foster was second in the NFL in yards rushing per game (95.8) and sixth in total yards rushing (1,246) in 2014.
According to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post, running back Pierre Thomas, a former staple in the New Orleans Saints offense, will be signed by the Houston Texans.
It all started when Lance Zierlein of Houston’s SportsTalk790 and NFL.com tweeted that he’s “pushing” his “chips” on Thomas getting the “first call” from the Texans. O’Brien said the Texans could sign someone as soon as Wednesday afternoon. “I know that sounds like a noncommittal type of answer, but it’s the truth”. But he’s a dual threat who can catch passes out of the backfield, and though he’s probably not a long-term solution in Houston, he could be good for as long as he’s healthy. This statement should be profound coming directly from the players own mouth but I am sure still that some of you are still buying in on Jimmy Graham. Last season they handed the ball to Blue 36 times in their week 11 win over Cleveland. He was also used often as a goal-line back late last season, so the potential for touchdowns increases his value. Depending on Alfred Blue and Chris Polk to take on a bulk of the carries does not look great for the Texans.
