3 shot near site of Alton Sterling shooting, report says

Philando Castile died Wednesday after being shot near Saint Paul, Minn.by an officer who pulled him over for a broken taillight. Castile’s girlfriend Diamond Reynolds livestreamed the aftermath of the shooting on Facebook.

“But regardless of the outcome of such investigations, what’s clear is that these fatal shootings are not isolated incidents”.

President Obama on Thursday said “all Americans should be deeply troubled” by the shootings.

If they find any violation of state laws, the US attorney’s office will refer it back to the area district attorney for prosecution. The murders happened at a protest in response to the killing of two black men this week by law enforcement officers.

After meeting with the USA attorney’s office to get an update on the probe, the Democrat put out a statement saying: “The people of Baton Rouge and across Louisiana should have no doubt that a thorough and impartial investigation is taking place as we speak”.

We maintain that officers who violate the public trust and their training should be held accountable through our country’s justice system. That begins with common sense reforms like ending racial profiling, providing better training on de-escalation and implicit bias, and supporting municipalities that refer the investigation and prosecution of police-involved deaths to independent bodies. He also lauded bipartisan legislation in Congress on criminal justice reform.

Federal investigators must meet a high legal burden to lodge a civil rights prosecution, establishing that an officer knowingly used unreasonable force under the circumstances and did not simply make a mistake or use poor judgment. “We’ve got to send a message back”.
