Americans mark July 4th with fireworks, franks, festivities

Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce from 6 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., Elba will continue the traditions set forth by our nation’s founding fathers during the first Fourth of July celebration, according to a chamber release. The event will kick off at 5 p.m. and a full scale fireworks show will start at 9:15 p.m. Registration starts at 6:45 a.m. and the race begins at 8 a.m. On Saturday, a community dance will be held at 5 p.m.at the community pavilion on University Avenue.

Spectators may bring food-beverage coolers inside Riverfront Park; however, glass containers, pets and grills will not be allowed. Lodge Park, Route 47.

– Bement Freedom Celebration features a parade at 2 p.m. with activities in the park including vendors and bingo, concert at 4 p.m. fireworks at dusk.

The city starts off its Independence Day fun with a block party on July 2 from 9-midnight along Main Street (Center St.to 100 North). There will also be bounce house/inflatables.

Parking is available in the sporting venue lots located off of Legacy Park Drive between Colbern and Langsford roads. There will be a concert at 7 p.m. with fireworks at dusk.

The Town of Wheatfield’s annual fireworks display will take place at dusk July 4 at Oppenheim Park.

Free food, games and live music will be available at Thaxton Ball Park on Saturday starting at 6 p.m. with a fireworks show beginning after dark.

HAMMOND – Fourth of July celebration will be held at Wolf Lake, 2324 Calumet Ave.

The city of Kirkland will be taking an educational approach this weekend for Independence Day, but repeat offenders beware: possession of fireworks without the proper permit is illegal in Kirkland, and a citation requires an appearance in court and possible fine.

Takoma Park: The 125th annual Fourth of July celebration at Takoma Park Middle School (7611 Piney Branch Road) will feature a parade, music and other performances.

New Auburn’s 4 of July celebration will include a pork chop feed tonight, a picnic and softball tournament tomorrow, along with fireworks at dusk courtesy of the VFW.

“The Fourth of July is one of our iconic shared touchpoints as Americans”, said Mayor David Bieter.

In Windham County, Stratton Mountain is having its fireworks at 9:15 p.m. Saturday, after a day of fun that includes hot dog and pie-eating contests. Kansas’ largest Independence Day celebration features Ottaway Carnival rides, magicians, a auto show and more.

Kenwood: The day starts with a 7 a.m. pancake breakfast and silent auction at the Kenwood Community Church.
