Trump campaign denies asking NYPD to address cops

Before the Dallas attack, more than 1,000 people had held peaceful demonstrations until late in the evening in NY to protest against the killing of two blacks earlier in the week in Louisiana and Minnesota, according to police.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio ordered all flags throughout the five boroughs to remain at half-staff, “as a mark of respect for the victims of the deadly violence” in Dallas late Thursday.

“It’s something we can not tolerate”.

The Dallas officers, de Blasio said, were on duty “protecting the protesters’ rights, and they protected the protesters even as bullets were hailing down”, a demonstration of “all that is good about our police and the work they do”.

His comments came in light of two police-involved shootings that garnered national outrage this week.

“Protesters owe it to the police to be respectful”, de Blasio said.

But a city official said that Keith Schiller – Trump’s head of security – called a community affairs officer at the precinct asking for such a meeting.

The 2014 murders of NYPD officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos led to increased tensions between New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio and the NYPD police union.

According to the New York Daily News, Trump asked to address NYPD officers at a 3 p.m. roll call, but Bratton called the request an attempt for a photo op. The incident is being investigated by New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.
