Gamescom 2015: ‘Mafia III’ Trailer, Screenshots, Story Info

The Mafia series began all the way back in 2002, with the most recent game arriving in 2010. True to form, less than two weeks on from 2K’s Mafia III news, along comes the first trailer, showing us the murky world in which its latest free-roaming gangster simulator takes place.

Mafia 3 is being developed by Hangar 13, a new studio under 2K’s label, and led by writer Haden Blackman.

As promised, the first trailer for Mafia III was released earlier today at Gamescom 2015. Mafia 3 sees protagonist Lincoln Clay returning home after a stint in Vietnam, with family being the central point of the game. These choices have an impact on the story, according to the developer, as well as on New Orleans overall. It looks like Clay’s story is primarily about brutal vengeance and building his own empire. Clay has just returned from Vietnam and falls in with the “Black Mob”. Their power struggle sees his newfound family killed, sending him on a quest for revenge. The black mob had ties with the Mafia, but things did not go well. The game was set at a time when racial discrimination was still a very hot issue in America.

The game’s setting will depart the 1930s American North-East locales of the previous titles and instead take place during the tumultuous year 1968 in a re-realized New Orleans. Cassandra with her Haitians, Burke and his Irish, and Mafia 2’s, Vito Scaletta, who lends his faction of Italians, will all grant you perks if you gain their favour, but they’ll bicker and even betray you should they feel you’re taking their piece of the crime pie.
