Dark days are over as Wales celebrate first ever semi-final

The 47-year-old took charge in May 2012 and helped the nation to a peak position of number one in the Federation Internationale de Football Association world rankings last year, but has failed to guide them to what would have been a first semi-final appearance at a major tournament since 1986.

Coleman recalled that Wales have never played at a Euro before and that their best previous showing at a big event was a quarterfinal berth 58 years ago at the 1958 World Cup.

Belgium’s quarter-final on Friday got off to a dream start but ended in a nightmare after Radja Nainggolan put the favourites a goal up only for Wales to strike back three times on the way to a famous win.

“I’ve been there 12 years, given a lot of service and I felt it was the best decision for myself and career to decide where I go next”.

“It’s quite simply the greatest night in Welsh history, the best result in Welsh football history but what was more more impressive was that it was the best performance.to make a team ranked second in the world look ordinary was impressive”.

“All the players in the team can pass the ball so that’s what we tried to do, whether it’s Belgium or whoever”, Coleman added. But Belgium’s porous defence allowed Wales captain Ashley Williams to score the equaliser at the half-hour mark, reports Efe.

Nottingham Forest look set to be firmly rebuffed if they approach Wales hero Hal Robson-Kanu, as he is determined to join a Premier League or top European club.

“It’s a great example by everybody that if you just believe, work hard enough. you need a bit of talent, of course, but you have to work hard and that’s what we’ve done”.

“We kept to our game plan”. “I’m enjoying it, it’s great and we deserve it”. We took the game to Belgium for long periods.

“They had some wonderful players”. I think the players have potential.

Their reward is a semi-final showdown with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in Lyon next week and Coleman urged his side to remember how far they have come in a short space of time.

“I don’t want to say it’s “once in a lifetime stuff” because I want to see us up there in tournaments in the future”.

“I think here we were pretty assured and to win 3-1 I think is unbelievable”.

Unfortunately for Wales, Ramsey will miss the semi-final against Portugal after picking up his second yellow card for a second-half handball.

They topped their group, which included England and Russian Federation, before beating Northern Ireland in the round of 16.
