Kashmir rebel Burhan Wani killed in Anantnag gunfight
Asserting that Burhan Wani, the recently killed 22-year-old Hizbul Mujahideen commander, was nothing more than a terrorist, the Congress on Saturday condemned the mourning and protests in the valley over his death and said that it was unfortunate that people of Jammu and Kashmir were grieving over the death of a terrorist.

At least 95 people, including security personnel, were injured, said Additional Director general of Police, CID, S.M. Sahai and Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, S.J.M. Geelani at a press conference here.
“We have had a very hard day today”, said ADGP (CID) of J&K Police S M Sahai while describing the situation “bad in certain segments”, “not critical” in areas like north Kashmir and under control in Srinagar.
Twenty-one-year-old Wani was killed, along with two of his accomplices, in an encounter in Kokernag area yesterday.
Shortly after the culmination of funeral prayers in absentia mourners staged pro-freedom protest and at couple of places clashed with the government forces deployed on the roads to maintain law and order.
More than 120 people, including security personnel, were injured, police said.
The Army and J&K police have described his killing is blow to militancy and major success for security forces. The Amarnath yatra has also been suspended as of now.
While the security forces were conducting the search operation, the hiding terrorists fired at them, triggering the gun battle, he said.
A joint team of police and army had on Friday gunned down Wani and two of his associates during an encounter in the Anantnag district.
He hailed from Tral in southern Kashmir and came from a wealthy family.
Burhan Wani Joined the separatist movement after an alleged assault by the security forces on his brother Khalid.
Burhan’s last video had appeared on the social network after the killing of three policemen at Anantnag in South Kashmir last month in which he had threatened to carry out more attacks.
