Hearthstone gets a new mechanic at Gamescom, new Ranked play rewards inbound

Blizzard has dropped a tonne of new information for its upcoming Hearthstone expansion, The Grand Tournament, since we last looked at it in July.

“When you play Master Jouster onto the board, both players reveal a minion from their decks”. And players will be awarded when they reach a certain rank. In the past, the temptation was there to just walk away from ranked matches for the season, but thankfully the fear has been dissolved with this update. It seems those who take part in the ranked battle tend to lose interest after reaching a high level and fall to lower levels before the rank season is over. “Minions Joust by emerging from their decks, creating a brief contest within a contest wherein players each reveal a (random) minion from their deck”. For example at Rank 17 players get a Rare card along with crafting dust and a new card back.

The seasonal Ranked Play reward system will see some changes: new tiered rewards depending on ladder position by the end-of-month reset will be handed out. The player that draws the highest value card is rewarded with the joust boost.

There will probably be other cards that take advantage of this new mechanic, but for now Master Jouster is the one we know about.

The cards can all be viewed in the gallery below. For example the new legendary card, The Skeleton Knight, has a deathrattle that triggers a joust and if successful, adds the legendary card back in to your hand.
