Grand Sam pulls off stunner of a lifetime with win over Djokovic
Novak Djokovic insists he will come back stronger than ever after Sam Querrey ended the world number one’s bid for tennis immortality in one of Wimbledon’s greatest upsets.

Reflecting on the same, Djokovic said that he had been suffering from mental and physical fatigue following his maiden French Open title, which he won by defeating second-ranked Andy Murray.
Epa05403538 Sam Querrey of the United States serves against Novak Djokovic of Serbia in their third round match during the Wimbledon Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, in London, Britain, 02 July 2016.
But instead Djokovic trudged off Court One humiliated after the big-serving Querrey’s 7-6 (8/6), 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (7/5) third round victory condemned the Serb to his earliest Wimbledon exit for eight years.
The 28-year-old suffered no hangover from his shock weekend triumph over the world number one as he beat Frenchman Mahut 6-4 7-6 (5) 6-4 in the fourth round to reach the first grand slam quarter-final of his career.
“I believe in positive things in life”. “I managed to win four Grand Slams in a row two different seasons”.
“I’m not basing my decision on Novak”, he said.
Novak Djokovic is the four-time Grand Slam victor and he also holds the record of winning the 30 straight match.
“Hopefully, you know, his good vibes – he’s a very happy-go-lucky guy – hopefully his positivity out there wears off on me as well and I think vice versa”.
“It’s disappointing, of course”.
Nishikori said he is hoping to be healthy again in time for the buildup to the final Grand Slam tournament in NY. There is no doubt about that. I’m so ecstatic, so happy.
The defeat also saw Djokovic face flurry of questions regarding his strangely lethargic effort against Querrey.
Second-seeded Andy Murray will be the favorite to win his second Wimbledon crown, while 17-time Grand Slam victor Roger Federer has a chance to extend his major titles record to 18. This is the first time she’s been seeded at a Grand Slam. “He nearly found a way to get back into that one today”, Murray said.
“You can always lose the tournament in the first week, but never win it”.
The 29-year-old insisted there was no correlation, saying: “Obviously if you see a result or hear the fans, then you think about it”.
After rain delays forced organizers to schedule matches on the middle Sunday for only the fourth time in history, the tournament is back on track going into the second week. “It’s the same for both of us”, he said.

Sam also mentioned that he was very relaxed before the match as he was doing dinner with his family, friends, and girlfriend. “Today, I was hoping to get better, but it was too much pain on the court”. “So that’s what I tried to do, stay focused and keep pressing”. The 2 1/2-hour match started on No. 1 Court long before Williams and Beck began play on Centre – and finished after.
