Germany cruise into last eight with 3-0 Slovakia win

GER won in 2007 in European qualification by 2-1, in 2006 for the same by 1-4 and 2001 in Friendlies by 2-0 and Slovakia won in 2005 in friendlies and 2016 by 1-3.

Jerome Boateng is expected to play in Germany’s round of 16 match against Slovakia at Euro 2016.

Martin Skrtel then blatantly pushed Mario Gomez for an obvious penalty but Ozil was too casual with the spot kick and keeper Matus Kozacik guessed correctly to palm the ball away. They had gotten results but were far from impressive.

Five minutes before halftime Juraj Kucka forced a flying save from Germany captain Manuel Neuer as he sent Peter Pekarik’s cross toward the top corner.

Draxler killed off any lingering hopes of a Slovakia comeback with a 63rd-minute volley from close range.

Germany defender Jerome Boateng, who scored in their win over Slovakia on Sunday, said his calf injury was improving and he was confident of being fit for the quarter-final with holders Spain or Italy.

Germany’s feared strikeforece was stuttering in the group phase with three goals in three games despite repeated attempts from Loew to find the right mix in his front line. “Now we will face a lot of quality”, he said. “I want to enjoy it and not think of the past”.

Draxler was also key in gluing Loew’s midfield and attack, which looked disjointed in their previous games, together.

This run to set up Germany’s second goal demonstrates his outstanding vision on the pitch as well as his impeccable dribbling skills.

“Italy are very strong in defence and good in attack, they had six or seven on the bench in the third game”. Metro is reporting that Jose Mourinho thinks he could get Draxler for about £30 million if Man United fail to get Mkhitaryan and if he can do it why can’t we?

“No, I’m sleeping well”, he said after the round-of-16 victory.

Germany were enjoying total domination, but unable to conjour a second.

Boateng has been arguably Germany’s player of the tournament so far, and not only for his defensive virtues. “They probably prepared better after we defeated them in the warm-up game”.

Central defender Boateng, who had been passed fit after an injury, connected perfectly with a clearance in the eighth minute to volley home from 25 metres for his first worldwide goal as the world champions took control from the start.

“It’s a pity the way we lost”, Hamsik said.

Loew is looking forward to the bigger challenges ahead, with France a possible semifinal opponent.

“Germany perhaps started slowly in the group stage but they are a tournament team and they know when to play really well”.
