Frazier homers, White Sox nip Braves 5-4

CHICAGO (AP) – Todd Frazier hit his 25th homer for the White Sox, and Jose Quintana bested Julio Teheran in the majors’ first all-Colombian pitching matchup.

Ned Yost and the American League All-Stars have already had to replace two pitchers on their roster, but White Sox left-hander Jose Quintana hasn’t been called upon to head to San Diego.

The White Sox are now in third place in the American League Central with a record of 45-42, sitting 7.5 games behind the frontrunning Indians.

The Braves’ 15 hits equaled a season high for a nine-inning game and included nine for extra-bases.

Jeff Francoeur, Gordon Beckham and Freddie Freeman all homered for the Braves.

“We’re pretty close”, Teheran said.

Unfortunately for White Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale, Friday night’s infield spectacle wasn’t enough to help him through an otherwise tough outing. But I think I deserve the All-Star. He walked one and struck out two. After the All-Star gave up three runs in the third, he faced the minimum over his final three innings.

“I feel stronger, I feel more relaxed – a little quicker swing”, Frazier said. He also had an RBI double in the third.

Quintana (7-8) allowed four runs and five hits. Quintana and Teheran were born about 25 miles apart in the northern department of Bolivar.

“I think Colombia won today”, he said.

“That ball here will take off”, Braves manager Brian Snitker said.

Teheran missed his last start Wednesday against the Phillies due to an infection from an ingrown hair. “So I thought he did a great job getting through six”.

With the kind of season the Atlanta Braves are having, it figured they might hit into a triple play.

In 36.1 innings of work, he has allowed just two home runs, a true aberration in the modern game of baseball where the home run is so valued. Unfortunately, Erick Aybar maintained his near-permanent pariah status by striking out with Garcia in sacrifice fly/RBI groundout range, and Chase d’Arnaud rolled out to third to end the game.

Chicago White Sox closer David Robertson was unavailable on Saturday afternoon, and will likely not pitch in Sunday’s game prior to the All-Star break either, according to the White Sox official Twitter account.

Justin Upton had two hits and Andrew Romine reached three times for the Tigers, who had lost seven of their previous nine against Toronto. Anderson tagged him for the first out, put his foot on the bag for the force at second, and then proceeded to throw to first to complete the trifecta. “I think we have better baseball now”. Carlos Sanchez took Lawrie’s place at second base. “Just a hit away”. He is expected to be re-evaluated Monday in Atlanta. “For me, it’s hitting good pitches”. “That was nice to hear”. Rodon was placed on the disabled list and replaced by RHP Tommy Kahnle from Triple-A Charlotte.

The Braves pulled within 5-4 in the sixth inning on Freeman’s opposite-field home run. He fielded Cabrera’s one-out grounder and stepped on first, then chased down Adam Eaton, who stopped halfway to second to get in a rundown.
