Newt Gingrich confirms he’s being vetted for Donald Trump’s VP
In remarks that frequently degenerated into a shouting rant, Trump at one point said that he was sorry that his campaign had removed the tweet before replacing the star with a circle. Citing two unnamed sources advising the Trump campaign, the newspaper reported that the chances of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, widely seen as one of Gingrich’s biggest competitors for the VP slot, being picked was “highly unlikely”.

The trip comes after Trump made it clear in a Thursday visit to Capitol Hill that he’s of no mind to change his brash approach to the campaign.
Rep. Adam Kinzinger of IL, an outspoken Trump critic, said there was a lack of energy in the room.
“Trump spent about 10 minutes answering the question – why he thought he could turn that around”, King said.
“When they told me the Star of David I said, ‘You’ve got to be kidding, how sick are they?’ They’re the ones with the bad tendencies when they think that way”, Trump said.
The Trump tweet caused an immediate uproar, with the Anti-Defamation League pointing out its bigoted anti-Semitic roots.
“I think it is so profoundly dishonest that it sickens me and makes me very angry”, Gingrich said. Kelly Ward, executive director of the DCCC, noted Trump’s rocky poll ratings among young and minority voters and said that voters in competitive districts “like Donald Trump the least”.
“‘You shouldn’t have taken it down, ‘” he said as if he was speaking to his team.
Gingrich said he counts them as modern Muslims but has less tolerance for some Syrian refugees and other Muslims. “I need to be persuaded”, said Rep. Charlie Dent, a moderate Republican from Pennsylvania.
Newt Gingrich on Thursday defended Donald Trump’s controversial tweet about Hillary Clinton featuring the Star of David over a field of money, telling CNN there was nothing anti-Semitic about the image and that the recent uproar was an “absurd” and “demagogic” attack orchestrated by the media. “And I wake up and I look at the media and they say I love Saddam Hussein”.
Trump has recently taken a bit of heat for a tweet which showed a star that some believed was the Star of David and viewed as anti-Semitic.
The meetings come as two potential vice presidential picks – Sens. Bob Corker in North Carolina before he withdrew his name from vice president considerations.
Democrats sough to capitalize on Trump’s appearance on the Hill. It includes $19.9 million in donations to his campaign, $25 million to his main joint fundraising committee with the RNC, $6.6 million to another joint committee and $3.8 million from Trump himself.
