Watch as Nunes claims title with brutal first round win

Lenar was plagued by the diverticulitis disease during his last UFC run, and he is considered to have overcome that ailment.

Following the Cormier fight was a dominating performance by Brock Lesnar in his return to the UFC octagon. It was quite a feat to step back in the Octagon after being out since 2011 and notch a win over a Top 10-ranked opponent; however, Lesnar is a special kind of athlete and this is a insane and unpredictable sport.

Nunes is in a relationship with UFC strawweight fighter Nina Ansaroff and there was an emotional moment at the press conference when Nunes praised Ansaroff for all that she’s done for her, personally and professionally. Three straight finishes on the Fight Pass prelims got the card off to a great start but, although it’s not all about stoppages, that trio of TKO’s in the opening section of the event was not matched in total by the following nine fights on FOX and PPV.

“I appreciate the UFC for getting me this fight”, said Cormier, who still made half of the guaranteed $1 million he would have earned against Jones.

Daniel Cormier, top, fights Anderson Silva during their light heavyweight mixed martial arts bout at UFC 200, Saturday, July 9, 2016, in Las Vegas. Cormier, as he needed to, repeatedly took Silva to the ground.

Heading into the bout, many questioned if Lesnar – who was finished via strikes in his previous two UFC appearances – could stand up to the punching power of the former kickboxing champion Hunt.

The WWE superstar stayed away from Hunt’s unsafe heavy hands and used his wrestling and size to win a unanimous points decision.

Nunes applied a rear-naked choke and Tate tapped to end the matchup of 135-pounders.

Having been stopped by McGregor in just 13 seconds last December, the fleet-footed Aldo put on a clinical display of counter-punching to outpoint the aggressive but ineffective Edgar to claim the interim title.

“I was excited to be in there”, he said.

The only other fight on the main card that really delivered was Cain Velasquez’s domination of Travis Brown.

Jim Miller defeated Takanori Gomi by knockout in the first round at 2:18.

Diego Sanchez also looks to be on his last legs. It takes big balls to do this, but I’ve always stuck my neck out there.

But there was more to the week than UFC 200.

“Super Samoan” may have landed a few good ones during their three-round encounter, but never had him “rocked”, he revealed.

The unpredictability of the UFC is its greatest strength.

The fights would have been compelling to hardcore fans, but casual fans who tuned in due to the hype surrounding the card likely wouldn’t have found much to like (save for a shocking main event). No one, but that’s how it turned out.

The UFC should make that fight against either Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman, who are both looking to get in the title mix.
