They further recaptured the Castello road, which was used by terrorists as a strategic path to the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo.
A US intelligence official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Syrian and Russian forces appeared to be pressing their offensive to encircle some 250,000 people inside areas of rebel-held northern Aleppo despite the announced 72-hour nationwide ceasefire and an all-but collapsed cessation of hostilities declared by the United States and Russia in February.
The army announced on Wednesday that it was observing a 72-hour nationwide cease-fire for the Eid Al-Fitr holiday that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The Observatory said air strikes and heavy shelling also hit rebel-held parts of Aleppo, killing at least five people.
An AFP correspondent in the city’s rebel-held east said that regime air strikes and rocket fire had also targeted opposition neighbourhoods on Friday.
The Syrian army announced a 72-hour ceasefire extension on Saturday, the government-run SANA news agency reported.
Assad’s forces, backed by Russian airstrikes, have almost encircled rebel-held parts of the city in recent months.
Residents said prices were already rising, and many were bracing for the possibility of a lengthy siege.
The U.S. Central Command said that as of Monday, the Syrian Arab Coalition, which is part of the SDF, completed the first phase of their operation to free the town of Manbij by securing the territory surrounding the IS-held town.
“The death toll reached 44, there are more than 300 wounded in the local hospitals”.
By Saturday, government soldiers were within 500 metres of the road and firing on any vehicle attempting to use it. “There were children, women, and men”.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. However, the regime continued to fight against rebel groups after the ceasefire came into effect, claiming that they were battling al-Nusra and the Islamic State, two groups that were not party to the agreement.
