The Amarnath Yatra remained suspended for the third consecutive day as curfew continued in most part of the Kashmir Valley following the tension after the killing of Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani on Friday.
“8,611 yatris had “darshan” inside the holy Cave yesterday”.
In view of the volatile situation, the Amarnath Yatra was also suspended, with police saying it will be resumed “as soon as it is possible to ensure security of yatris”.
So far 1,27,358 pilgrims have paid obeisance at the cave shrine situated at 13,000 feet in south Kashmir Himalayas since the commencement of the 48-day-long pilgrimage on July 2. A total of 7,000 to 8,000 pilgrims from the two Telugu states are believed to now be in Jammu and Kashmir.
The pilgrims would start return journey back to Hyderabad late this evening, he said.
Sources told IANS that a team of officials from Gujarat is reaching here on Monday to find out the welfare of stranded Yatris belonging their state.
