Clinton: Dallas shooting an ‘absolutely horrific event’
The ambush of Dallas police has the potential to upend the presidential campaign, forcing Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump to navigate race, violence and law enforcement in ways that are even more complex than the fraught situation before the attack on Thursday that left five police officers dead and six others recovering from bullet wounds.

Trump canceled a planned trip to Miami, citing the shooting, and Clinton postponed a fundraising event with Vice President Joe Biden in Scranton, Pa.
“This morning I offer my thoughts and prayers for all of the victims’ families, and we pray for our fearless police officers and first responders who risk their lives to protect us every single day”, he said. “We know there is something wrong with our country”, she said in a previously scheduled speech at the African Methodist Episcopal Church conference.
Clinton said, as president, she would implement a set of national guidelines on the deadly use of force.
“We’ve got to do a lot more to bring the police together with the communities they protect”, said Clinton.
“Too many African-Americans shave been killed in encounters with police over matters that should not have led to that action being taken”, she said.
“Racial divisions have gotten worse, not better”, Trump said. “This isn’t the American Dream we all want for our children”, Trump said.
They were the folks I grew up with: The boy with the most courage and the most compassion; the man with a courageous heart and a generous soul, whose words were always encouraging; the son who made his mother proud every time he turned and smiled at her; and the friend who you could always count on.
What is widely considered to be the most accurate election poll-the Pew Survey-came out yesterday, and showed that most voters aren’t psyched about their options for the next president: 58 percent of Americans are not satisfied with the choice between Clinton and Trump, while only 40 percent are satisfied.
He was noticeably more measured in his statement Friday but reappeared on Twitter late in the day, taking Clinton to task for her answers to questions in a TV interview about her email practices.
She assigned responsibility to police as well as the public.
The deadly attack on Dallas police has sidelined some campaign events Friday by Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. “The fact is that there are communities in America where black families tell us that they are fearful with interacting with local law enforcement. And they, unfortunately, tend not to be”, he said.
“Elie Wiesel, who died last week, once clarified for us that the opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference”, said Clinton. Their deaths prompted the protest in Dallas interrupted by the shootings that killed five police officers. “Clinton also called for greater protection of police officers”.
The main suspect was 25-year-old Micah Johnson, who was later killed in a blast triggered by a robot.

In a separate post, Stewart wrote, “Liberal politicians who label police as racists – specifically Hillary Clinton and Virginia Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam – are to blame for essentially encouraging the murder of these police officers tonight”.
