Hip-hop Broadway musical Hamilton bids farewell to three stars

Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Tony Award-winning creator and actor of the smash Broadway musical Hamilton, took one last bow during his final curtain call on Saturday (July 9). Recent Tony Award victor Leslie Odom, Jr., Phillipa Soo, and ensemble member Ariana DeBose are also departing their respective roles for other opportunities.

The orchestra played the theme to “The West Wing” as the cast made their final bows on Saturday night at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.

PEOPLE reporter Dave Quinn also posted photos of Miranda’s post-Hamilton look on Instagram.

Many long-running Broadway shows including “Jersey Boys”, “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Chicago” have gone through numerous cast changes without losing momentum and experts say “Hamilton” will manage the transition well because it’s never been a star-driven show. After originating the role and performing it for a year and a half (not including all the workshopping, etc.), Miranda is bowing out, with his rather excellent alternate Javier Munoz taking over the role.

The performance saw standing ovations throughout for Miranda’s opening song, Odom Jr’s “The Room Where It Happens” and Christopher Jackson’s “One Last Time”.

Luis Miranda told FNL that the family has gotten used to this “new normal” with so many projects and said he is so proud that his son has remained the “kid he has always been”.

The big cut comes just a few days after the in-demand Broadway star recorded a song with Jennifer Lopez to honor the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando.

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s time on “Hamilton” has come to an end and apparently so had his iconic ponytail. He’s composing the music for the new Disney film Moana, and will later star as a street lamplighter named Jack alongside Emily Blunt in Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns.
