Blink-182 dethrones Drake from top spot on Billboard 200

California, the pop-punk- trio’s seventh studio album, is now their biggest charting record in the United Kingdom to date, beating Take Off Your Pants And Jacket, which reached number four in 2001. It debuted July 1 and sold 186,000 equivalent album units the week ending with July 7. Of those, 172,000 were pure album sales – it’s the third-biggest sales showing for a rock group in 2016 and Blink’s most impressive sales week in 13 years, when their self-titled album moved more than 300,000 copies.

Prior to the chart-topper, the band’s most successful album was 2001’s Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, which peaked at number four.

Bat For Lashes notches up a third Top 10 album this week with The Bride, new at Number 9, and Metronomy’s Summer 08 debuts at 20, giving them a third Top 40 set.

After a nine-week reign, the return of Blink-182 did something that Nick Jonas, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Ariana Grande couldn’t do: Knock Drake’s Views from atop the Billboard 200.

Meanwhile, last week’s Number 1, Adele’s 25, slips to 2, pushing Coldplay’s A Head Full Of Dreams down a spot to 3.

Next week, it’s not out of the question for Drake to regain the Number One spot, but the rapper will have to defeat newcomers like Schoolboy Q’s Blank Face and Chevelle’s The North Corridor.
