Muslims celebrate Eid ul Fitr

After the moon was sighted on Wednesday night, City Quazi announced to celebrate the festival on Thursday.

Ramzan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is observed as a fasting period by Muslims who abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset and it culminates in Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.

“We believe that the 30 days of fasting which forms one of the core pillars in Islam has further deepened your faith and spiritually strengthened your relationship and engagement with Allah”.

A series of attacks have occured around the world during Ramadan 2016, the Muslims’ holy month of fasting.

In Davao, hundreds of Muslims celebrate Eid’l Fitr at the Tionko Football Field at Agro Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines. He vowed to bring “peace, stability, development and progress under” his leadership.

As families and friends come together, it is also important that we remember how our communities enrich the cultural diversity of this country, and the contribution made by Muslims in many different fields and in different ways to our national life.

Also a month of self reflection and improvement, Ramadan sees Muslims partake in extensive prayer and regular Mosque visits.

For the world’s 1.5 billion Muslims, Eid al-Fitr is second only to Eid al-Adha, which comes around two months later. Some have said this Ramadan has been more hard than usual.

In his Eid message, Vijayan said “may this Eid day ensure togetherness of all minds through its message of brotherhood and humanity”.

Pakistan celebrated Eidul Fitr with religious fervour and zeal on today (Wednesday).

Referring to the Muslim world’s top sacred mosque in Mecca, he said: “The Kaaba is our qiblah [the direction of prayer], not a place for determining time”.

Similar joyful scenes were witnessed at their homes, in Muslim dominated localities with their Hindu, Christian, Jain and Parsi brethren joining in the celebrations symbolising communal harmony.
