Giants sign punter Brad Wing to three-year extension

The Giants have signed Wing to an extension that will last through the 2019 season that includes $6.45 in new money and $3.725 million in guarantees.

Wing, 25, previously signed a one-year, $600,000 deal for 2016 an exclusive rights free agent.

Clearly, the Giants view Wing as their punter now and into the future.

Wing, acquired in a trade with Pittsburgh just before last season, heads into his third pro season.

The Giants like Wing’s play enough to sign him through the 2019 season as he looks to break the franchise record for punts inside the 20-yard line. It was the first time a punt had been kicked and returned by Australians. So while his gross (44.5) and net (38.9) averages were far from eye-popping, Wing pinned the Giants’ opponent inside the 20 on more than 43 percent of his kicks. His 33 punts inside the 20-yard line in 2015 was also good for fifth in the NFL. Wing and Odell Beckham Jr. are best friends, dating back to their days at LSU when the two were teammates there as well. He originally signed as a rookie free agent by the Philadelphia Eagles April 29, 2013, and was waived at the end of training camp. Wing did a fine job in 2015 as the holder for Brown on field goals.
