Exactly how much coffee drinkers pay, however, will depend on the market, the company said.

The company didn’t immediately return a request for comment on whether the price increases are related to the wage hike.

Starbucks says it’s increasing prices slightly on brewed coffee, espresso and tea latte beverages.

Starbucks said on its website that the new prices were required “to balance business needs while continuing to provide value to our loyal customers”.

The price hikes were originally announced the first week of July after some customers were mistakenly charged the higher prices before they were scheduled to go into effect. Last July, Starbucks raised its prices in Seattle 3.5 times as much as in the rest of the country.

Starbucks was forced to announce the “small price increase” on July 2 after the price adjustment was prematurely entered into the point of sale systems in its USA company-operated stores. As a result, some customers were charged incorrectly, according to the news release.

The announcement was made in a letter to employees from CEO Howard Schultz. “Both are decisions based on long-term, strategic plans with many different consideration factors”, she said.
